Background :5-Hydroxyuridine is a modified nucleoside formed by the oxidative hydroxylation of uridine in RNA. It is a marker of RNA oxidative damage caused by reactive oxygen species. Antibodies to 5-hydroxyuridine are used to detect RNA oxidation in studies of oxidative stress and aging.
