Background :S-adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase-like protein 2: Regulatory protein that interacts with and modulates the activity of membrane ion transporters, including the sodium-bicarbonate cotransporter SLC4A4, through phosphorylation-dependent binding. Functions as a homolog of AHCYL1 to regulate bicarbonate transport and intracellular pH homeostasis via direct interactions rather than enzymatic activity (By similarity). On the contrary of its homolog AHCYL1, does not regulate ITPR1 sensitivity to inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate
